The Importance of Social Media Cleanses

Social media is one of the largest ways information is put out for the entire world to consume. Social media is very influential and this can come with so many benefits but downfalls as well. Some great things that can be done successfully on social media are things like promoting a business/brand or raising money for a good cause.

However, one of the biggest negative impacts of social media is the constant comparison to what others on the internet are doing. This is hurting today's generations' mental health more and more. Consuming content like this can make one believe they are not doing well enough in life. Whether that is financially, mentally, emotionally, and/or psychically. One can even start trying to live up to other's untrue or unrealistic expectations.

Not to mention, it is addictive and it is so easy for it to become a distraction. It is reported that out of the 3 billion social media users, about 210 million people are addicted, crazy right? The plot twist is that even I have checked my Twitter like 15 times whilst writing this blog so I am living proof.

Personally, I try to take social media cleanses as often as every 2-3 months or whenever I feel overwhelmed. I get overwhelmed because I spend so much time on social media that it causes me to be unproductive and procrastinate. Once I log out of the world for a while (1-2 weeks) a major shift of my actions occur, and this is why I recommend it to you too.

How to start a social media cleanse?

Literally, just do it! You have to think to yourself how beneficial it will be. You will have more time in the day to get stuff done, you get better/more sleep, and you'll be more in touch with reality. When is the last time you just noticed your surroundings when you were out without checking your phone?

At first, there will be an extreme case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) but you can push through. Watch YouTube videos on social media cleanses that other people did so you will not feel alone about it. After a few days, you will feel so refreshed and not even reach for the apps! Good luck!
