In the society we live in today, it is easy for someone to perceive someone in a negative way because of the way the media sways the audience. For black women, there are multiple stereotypes that are displayed and make it easier for others to misjudge and criticize. For example, when you watch how the women act on Love and Hip Hop, you see women argue and throw drinks across the table over small disagreements and most people find it as entertainment or even humorous.

This tends to cause people to label black women as violent or angry because of the things seen on television even though that is not always the case. Women are unable to express most emotions without being classified as the girl that has a “short temper” or “not able to handle a joke”. Shows such as Love and Hip Hop are one of the reasons why it is harder for women to get a good paying job or even get an interview in most scenarios. Most employers have that expectation of a black woman to come into the workplace causing commotion, being loud or even disrespectful. This causes us to work harder than anyone in the field we are in because we have to prove how we deserve the position we are in. In most cases, people will push buttons to infuriate you to see if those stereotypes of being the angry black woman are true, making those the situations we try so hard to avoid. Being poorly treated in the workplace isn’t new, mainly because women are already being discriminated against, but being a black woman in the working society you have multiple obstacles you have to overcome just to even be somewhat successful.
